Environmental Sustainability Class & Student Voices
This week the Environment, Science and Sustainability class ventured out to Miller Farm. The students were conducting experiments on the soil to measure CO2 emissions. They dispersed into different groups and tested soil from all around the farm, including the high tunnel, the garden, and the compost. We talked to sophomore Riley Green, Environmental Sustainability major, about his day out on the farm. He told us his group is testing the soil in the forest at the edge of the Miller Farm property. They placed a container right around the trees and one right outside of the small forest. They will come back and compare which container has higher CO2 emissions. When asked about his work, Green said;
“I love learning exactly how our earth works then thinking about how can I help to keep it that way. It’s great to have the opportunity to come out to the farm and see what roles miller farm plays in building an environmentally sustainable Earlham.”
