3.22.19 Quaker Farmy Friday Newsletter

Hello Miller Farmers! Earlham students are back from Spring Break this week (and seem to already have forgotten what that break felt like) AND it's officially Spring! The farm is chugging along with starts in the greenhouse, seeds in the ground, and plants to tend to in the high tunnel. We're also busy looking ahead to the boundless opportunities and possibilities ahead.

Last Saturday, Tony and Saskia spent the early afternoon cleaning out the barn out at the farm. Some rearranging, purging, and sweeping give the space more flow and a sense of readiness for the coming season. Not that we expect it to stay clean and tidy for very long, of course! We are farmers after all...

Before and after of the barn cleaning process.

Throughout the week, various tasks at the farm were completed, including more mulch moving, planting beans and onions, and getting basil starts going in the greenhouse.

Super spinach in the high tunnel!

Caleb, Paolo, and Tony plant onions and cover the beds with compost.

The Farm Meeting on Thursday was a chance to plan out the upcoming farm day and look ahead to the pilot conference in just over a month. The Quaker Natural Farming/Eco-Spirituality conference will take place on Saturday, April 27th from 9am to 4pm. Starting with a drum circle, tea and some presentations and open discussion, the day will move into some active work on the labyrinth and a shared meal. Keep updated and reserve your spot (space is limited!) via info and links on our facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1009333945918103/

Part of the conference will include a display of the findings of the research Saskia has been doing this semester about the history and legacy of Miller Farm. If you have any images, stories, names, or ideas, please send them to sbbaile15@earlham.edu.
